setting up a hometheater with power supply questions?

ok fine, $150-250. work in that range and give me options.
OK.

Go with a couple 5.25" or 4" full range drivers from PE. Build small ported enclosures for them.

You can find a 5.1 capable receiver on Ebay for $50-75, you might need to do some digging though. A plate amplifier for the sub will run you in the $60-70 range for a small one, 200W at the most.

$200 is doable for what you're looking to do, but you're going to have to watch auctions like a hawk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but that means that the speaks are getting receiver power. here's what i want to do:

use car amp.

use pyramid power supply

incorporate my sub + enclosure.

i don't know how to do the speakers and i'm not building any enclosures.

??

I know it's a thread jack, but inline with the OP.

1) What are some good plate amps? My HTIB reciever only has one output for sub whereas most plate amps I see have a configuration more similar to car audio (R and L)

2) Why is plate amp reccomended over the power supply? because it does both? What if he already had an amp lying around? (or two?)

Parts Express has probably the best lineup.

There are Y-adapters to split a single LFE connection to two RCA jacks.

Using an undersized bench power supply to run 12VDC amplifiers for home use is ghettofied at best...laughable and dangerous at worst. Maybe for temporary testing, OK...but for a real setup, it pays to do it right.

Which is a plate amp or a rack amp ( I think that is what it is called, like the Beringer)

gotcha!
