Setting HPF & LPF with only test tones?

Hey all,

So I've got my gain properly set on my amp by using a DMM and now I'm on to setting my filters. I've got a 4 channel amp with 2 channels to the front speakers (its a truck so only fronts are amped) and 2 channels bridged to a Alpine sub in the rear. My question comes to setting the filters using test tones though. Say I want to set my LPF at 80 hz. Can I just play a 80 hz test tone and adjust the filter just until I can't here the sound from my sub? Can I do the same with my speakers except in reverse? Raise the HPF just until I can't hear the tone from the front speakers? Essentially I'm confused on how people measure exactly what they have their filters set at. Sorry if this is a noob question but I didn't see anything in the stickies that helped me. Thanks!

Note: I don't have access to an oscilloscope or anything, just test tones and a multimeter.

You set gains with all filters off. For the subs, a 40hz test tone. For mids, 400hz. When you have them set, then you set the lp and hp.

You can set the lpf with test tones, that would work fine. You have the right idea.
