I recently purchased level 4 of the TrueRTA software. I using a M-Audio Mobilepre external USB soundcard with the software.
The first thing I'm trying to do is test my digital processor to determine at what volume level on my deck (0-35) the signal starts to clip. I put a 1000hz test tone in my deck (deck is connected to the processor - Alpine PXA-H701 - via fiber optic cable), connected one of the rca outputs from my the processor to the stereo input on my soundcard. Soundcard is connected to my laptop via USB.
Here's my problem. With the M-Audio soundcard selected as my default, I have two volume controls - one on the external soundcard itself and a "capture" input volume on laptop. When I play the test tone, it starts to clip right away. If I turn down either volume on the soundcard or laptop, I can turn up my deck further until it clips again.
I guess I don't get it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif How can I accurately test when my signal is clipping from my processor? No matter what volume I set on my deck, I can always turn down the soundcard's volume or the input volume on my laptop to stop the clipping. On the flip side, no matter what volume I set my deck, I can cause the signal to clip by turning the soundcard's volume up.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance.
