setting gains on 2 channel for full range 6x9s

Most of the time people use 1khz. If you are setting the levels with a DMM though it won't really matter. In fact pink noise might be best if you don't need to look at a single wave form.

The best way is obviously with a oscilloscop if you can get your hands on one or know someone with one. Even a very low end oscilloscope will work perfectly for setting gains. There are youtube videos that will show you specifically how to do it.

Your DMM won't be very accurate at 1000. And at 50 or 60 Hz where the meter is OK, you need to disable any HPF. I never use meters for front gains, always do it by ear. Too many variables.
