clamping amp

i was trying to clamp my amp to see what kind of power it actually puts out at 1 ohm since its not 1 ohm stable but when i do the test with a 50 hz test tone my voltage is right at 24.4 but the amps only goes to 5.5 amps and thats only like 125 rms i have the multimeter set to ac volts and the clamp set to ac amps i dont know what im doing wrong

It mat have protection circuitry that limits output when the impedance gets too low. What kind of amp is it and how much power were you expecting?

its a jl xd600 its only 2 ohm stable but have it wired one ohm just wanted to see what power it put out and chalk it up as a learning experience

Found this in the manual....

Subwoofer loads below 2 ohms nominal are not recommended and may cause the amplifier

to initiate a protection mode which reduces

power output.

I'm not sure that that's what they are getting but between the manual and your test, that's a distinct possibility.

24.4VAC with the subs connected? what is the fs of the subs? near the fs the impedance spike will greatly reduce current. try other tones, like 100Hz (assuming your meters can measure AC at frequencies other than 60Hz - check the manual).

the fs of the sub is 28.3 hz, and yes with the subs connected
