Okay so i set my gain with a DDM and i had my deck bass set at 0 and my subwoofer set at 15(max) then i set my gain, is this right? Also after i set my gain can i turn my bass up on the amp?

ALpine MRP-M1000 Amp

(2) Type R 2 Ohm (wired at 2 ohm in series)

ALpine CDA-100 I believe

no, no, no, NO. Ok, you really don't need to have your subwoofer set at max. I usually put it somewhere in the middle that way I have a way to adjust it slightly, but that doesn't matter. After you set your gains, DO NOT turn the bass boost up on the amp, otherwise you'll just be negating everything you just did. If you want the bass boost up, then turn it up before you set your gains, but I would definitely advise against using it at all since it boosts certain frequencies and just distorts what the bass should actually sound like.

Okay so got what to do on the amp so i have a alpine deck and i can turn the subwoofers up to 15...When i set it should i turn that to 0? and if i set it to 0 when setting can i turn it up to 15 when i am done?

In general, the answer is no. Your not grasping this whole gain setting concept are you? When you set the gain, basically what your doing is setting your amp to the correct input voltage. Say your HU has 4v pre-outs, then your setting your 1000w amp to create 1000w using a 4v input signal. Bass boost, subwoofer level, and volume all affect the output voltage from your HU. So if you set it with the subwoofer level at 0, then turn it up afterwards, your HU will be putting out a higher voltage (say, 6v). Then your amp is going to be getting a higher voltage input but with the same amount of gain, so it's going to be trying to create more than 1000 watts, but obviously it can't because of internal limitations, so it produces a clipped signal instead (which is very bad).

So put your settings wherever the hell you want BEFORE you set the gain, and you can turn them down afterwards, but not up.

Okay thanks i was kinda confused still well i TOTALY get it now! Lol, Thanks alot im still a newbie this is only my 2nd system and im only 16

What you want to be doing is setting your gains with the loudest you would ever play your sub. So, if you insist on having the sub at +15, then put it at +15 and then set your gains. Do not set your gains with your sub at 0, and then turn it up to +15 afterwards, or you'll be feeding it too much power.

The point of setting your gains is so that at maximum volume, your subwoofer will be getting the perfect amount of power. So common sense tells you to not turn your bass boost up after you set your gains, or it will be getting more power than it can handle.

Setting your gain is not to protect your sub from getting too much power, it's to stop you from clipping your amp.
