setting amp with an O-scope

so whats the deal here. i have acces to one and id like to do it up. shoul i set em up with music or test tones. if test tonesm wich ones, 0.-3,-6,-10. also what freq

im also gonna asume then when the sound wave becomes square thats distortion

Test tones.

Which ones you use are up to you. I personally like to use -6dB or -10dB. But listen for signs of speaker stress when you blast it, especially if you use -10 dB tones.

When the wave's crest begins to flatten, that is clipping / distortion.

thanks very much, i might use -8 or -10 test tones, 95%of the music i listen to is usaly compresed. also should i check my pre outs b4 i do the amp the same way. with a test tone and look for the crest begin to flaten, this way i know when my deck is cliping!!
