Set up for two 12W3...Advice Wanted

First off it's nice to join this board..Its great to be able to talk to other Audio enthusiasts.

Currently I am running a JL 250/1 Amp to my 12W3-D4. I am in the process of getting another 12W3-D4. Would it be a problem to push the other W3 with a JL 500/1 Amp while I'm only pushing the first sub with a 250/1? Does anyone think it would go good? Just trying to get some advice on the idea beacuse I love W3's and I want to push more power than just 250 RMS on each Sub. Thanks

first off welcome the ca.com and second off if you haven't already bought the 500/1 and don't mind changing brands---don't buy the jl. there are other amps that will get you more power for alot less!!!!

hes right, plenty of other brands that are much cheaper for teh power, and still are very nice quality. jl does make some awesome amps thogh

if you are dead set on jl tho---you could get 2 of the jl e1400's for about 500 bucks and those are perfect for the dub 3's 400w X1@2ohms i think

The e1400 wouldnt be a bad idea at all the only problem is they hit 400 RMS at 2 ohms, my w3 runs at 4 ohms. With a 2 Ohm set up on the e1400 you get about 240 RMS I think currently I push the w3 with 250 rms, do you think that two 250/1 would give it enough bump?

well the w3 are dual 4 ohm voice coils---just wire coils in parallel and you're at 2 ohm load=400 watts per sub.i know the subs are rated lower but belive me--they can take 400 no problems. here's what i'm talking about just in case http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/ look at the 1 dvc parallel pictures .

I think you mean the E 1800 not the 1400?

Either way with 2 dual 4's your have the option of a final load of either

1 ohm or 4 ohm. The E series are not 1 ohm stable and at 4 ohms you are cutting your power in half. I'd stick with the JL 500/1 if you already have it and get those subs in a large ported box which will make them louder and more effecient. You will not gain that much more output frm an additional 100 or 200 watts. A great box is your best bet.

My fault, he was referring to one E1400 per sub which would be perfect but it sounds like you have already purchased the 500/1 which will be perfect for those subs in the "right" box.

i have a cadence z9000 (800 RMS @ 4 ohm x 1) i'll sell ya for 220 shipped. its brand new, with all packaging original box, materials... still under warranty till 9/4/05.
