Set my gains

Well I got an Orion 2500d powering 2 12" L7's wired to 1 ohm, i set my gains using a 50hz 0db test tone so the dmm read 49.6volts i think and its supposed to be 50, but i checked my voltage again with regular music and the highest it ever goes with regular music is around 41, does that mean i should turn my gain up more so the voltage goes to 50 with regular music or should i keep it like it is?

bump, anyone know the answer to this?

think about it. the goal is to make you happy.

the DMM only tells you that things should be safe.

you can choose lower gains and be safe, and they might even make sense from a "its sounds like music" perspective.

alright so since my dmm is supposed to read 50, how much do you guys think i can turn up my gain and still be safe? think i can turn up the gain to like 55 volts and still be safe? i just want my system to be as loud as possible

Is it not loud already? I would put it no higher than 55 using a dmm on a test tone, but its your ears so this decision is al up to you
ok im just gonna stay safe, i set it at 50.6 volts, but when i turn the volume up one notch, it jumps to like 55, then 58 after 2 notches. so at 40/52 volume its at 50.6volts using the 45hz test tone, 41/52 its at 55, 42/52 its at 58volts and i usually bump my music at 42/52 volume max is that very bad to play like that or should i just stick to 40 or 41/52, cuz i notice a big difference in how loud it is when i have it had 42 volume instead of 40

listen man, heres the deal. dont use a 0db test tone. with subwoofers you can use a -6db tone and be safe. i use -6db for subs and -3 for speakers since music isnt a straight 0db tone. it jumps up and down all over the ****ing place.

1- grab a 50hz -3 or -6db test tone (choose which one you want, -6db obviously is gonna give you more bass)

2- hook up the dmm

3- set volume to the max you listen to (which should be before it clips)

4- turn gain up until you reach your desired voltage, which i believe you wrote was 50v's right?

thats it. this way you arent wasting power from the amplifier cause your gains are set so low for music. simple as that. if i didnt make sense read the gain setting tutorial, Jmac isnt an idiot, he knows what hes talkin about

i used a -3db one to set my gain and i mostly listen to rap, i'd like it to get louder if possible but still be on the safe side, should i use a -6db tone?
