Hello all! Just joined and have a few easy questions. I am 38 years old, was heavy into this stuf when I was 16-20 years old, EIGHTEEN years ago!! Any way wanting to put a little system in my truck just for old times sakes. I am an electrician by trade and have a great understanding of ohms law. I fish for a living and have access to some very nice wire, crimps and crimpers for my larger stuf which is gonna be a plus.

I have a kenwood head unit in my 97 chevy extended cab now. JUst purchased some infinity kappa seperates for my front door and some some nice infinity 4x6 plates for my rear pillar. Also purchased a JL 450/1 and a JL 1000/1 amps. Plannin on ordering JL 10" W6's firsdt thing Monday.

First thing I will do is the big three for sure, properly. My truck is a full power truck so have a failry strong alternator but yes, it is stock.

Questions,

WIll I need to upgrade my alternator?

WIll I need a second battery?

Will I need a capacitor? If so what size?

What size wire to run to my ditribution block beside amps?

WHat about speaker wire to my subs? What size with that amount of wattage?

Thanks very much in advance for the help, been a long time but this should sound ok I hope??

WIll I need to upgrade my alternator? NO

WIll I need a second battery? YES

What size wire to run to my ditribution block beside amps? 1/0 to distro and 4 gauge to amps (make sure the 1000/1 is short run of 4 gauge, less than 3 ft.)

WHat about speaker wire to my subs? What size with that amount of wattage? great calculator (bookmark this!) http://bcae1.com/images/swfs/wirepowercalculator.swf

Thanks very much in advance for the help, been a long time but this should sound ok I hope?? yes it should sound very nice if proper box is built

I will suggest that you look into some other brands before spending so much on JL...

I think your mean 450/4 and a 1000/1 correct? If thats the case big three should be good enough... Never use caps!!!

There ya go...

THanks for the quick replies. Did a search (know I should have first) now see the error on the caps. Cool.

As far as a second batterie goes, I have space under my hood for it versus closer to my amps, Cant see any reason why this would not do just as well? MOst likely get some type of deep cycle batt.

BnR, you refferrring to the cost of the subs then? Already own the amps...

BASSCORT, when you say proper, you mean MDF, correct volume, ECT? THanks a bunch!

Ya two batts up front would be just fine and I will be going with an XS Power battery for my next setup... and yes if you already have the amps then Id look else where for subs, JL is crazy over priced for stuff thats middle of the road...

i have a big battery for sale if you would like. sprinter 370. its 125 AH and 67 lbs. very awesome battery. great condition. 200 shipped.

and on proper i mean built to specs. good airspace and port volume. sand down all rough edges, no air leaks ect...

They still make good stuff but there is better without the price for all the marketing... Also was I correct on the 450 being a 4 channel? if so what where you thinking for a front stage?

What sort of subs do you want? 10's? shallow mount? where are they going?

on burps like 4k but for daily id say around 2k

WOw so many choices. Have not purchased subs yet so.... Looking for tens, going under rear seat in extended cab truck. Yes it is a 450/4, my bad. Have 6.5 components infinity kappa up front with 4x6 plates in the rear.

Steer me in the right direction!!! NOTHING is set in stone!

Been planning on going with a sealed box since I SEEM to have plenty of power. But maybe not??
