Selling 300ZX, looking for new idea for older import...

just break down and get a honda.

they are reliable and cheap on gas.

and if you spend about 6 grand on up grades like turbo and nitrous and engine up grades it could do 15's in the 1/8th mile. LOL

Ford Focus RS8:
450 hp 5.0 liter V8 + 3375 lbs + RWD = mid-12s

Are you telling me that just adding a $2000 turbo to the Focus ST is going to add ~250 hp (~400 hp total) ? I bet there's a lot more done to the engine to get a Focus into the 12-second category than adding a $2000 turbo ...
No, you are right, I got my numbers mixed up. It was 16.1 stock focus st.

I was taking those numbers I was doing and saying adding that turbo would get me into the 12's, but It may take more. There are some people over there on that forum that are running 12's just a bit over 200hp though. I am not sure what all they have in them, but they were talking about the trubo giving over 80 hp, so would be around 230hp plus.

So I'm selling my Nissan 300ZX because the guy who sold it to me turned out to be not as good of a friend as i thought.(lesson well learned though, always take car to mechanic before buying, whether from a friend or not).
long story short, he told me a few minor things that were wrong with it, i bought it, turned out it basically need a whole new engine, or engine rebuild. he said he'd help out with the cost because he felt bad. I figured he'd go like half and half with me, so i'd end up putting about 3.5k total into buying this car after it's fixed, well he only said he could put 300 toward the 3k rebuild instead of my hopeful 1.5k so i have to sell the car because i can't afford to do all that work to it.

So i'm looking for an older car. Preferably RWD, Fast stock but with potential. t-tops and or convertible would be a plus. Since i drive my 79 beetle convert. 7 months out of the year with the top down, i hate driving inside a car with no convert. now.

and when i say fast i don't mean like 10 second car. just something that's fast enough to have fun with, and bring it out to the strip every now and then.

i have about 6k to work with. any ideas?

the only way i really want to stay domestic, is if it's an older 'cool' car or a 94-96 Caprice. I was looking at a 77' Cadillac Deville the other day and I really liked it, but it was just under 8k, so i want to check my other options first...

try to find another 300 turbo in good condition. Easy to up the boost and make it much faster. I also like the supra's though they are a bit heavy and the rx-7s are the most fun to drive imo, but the rotary is a B**** to work on.

As far as the focus goes, its not rwd. If you cant drift it once in a while you lose half the fun evn if it goes as fast in a straight line.

Well, obviously the turbo is going to be a huge part in any small-displacement engine (unless you have a LOT of money), but you usually need to do a lot of work for the car to handle the boost reliably ...
BTW, I still can't find a Focus running 12s w/ 230 hp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I found one running mid-14s w/ 180 whp and one running mid-13s w/ 210 whp
There was one in there. Is in his sig, but I cant find the thread nor remember his name, but it is all hearsay anyway, because its the netz! I just probably wanted to believe him, lol!

Still those are some impressive numbers from a front wheel drive car IMO.

I drift in reverse. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

You have to remember this is a car that was made 16 years ago and wasn't even designed as a drag car in the first place.

Even if you build a motor that is capable of running 12's traction is always gonna be a big problem with fwd.

hey is turbo tom still on the jet?

I had a focus with a Fmax kit,

~240 whp @12lbs was good for low to mid 14's on drag radials, 94 octane

I had some extra weight in the car though

yeah but you couldnt run around on 12-15lbs without throwing a rod sooner or later.

There werent any standalones that worked on our cars when I was with it so it was just a new mass airflow sensor, bigger injectors, and a chip burnt according to computer code. Not the best tune.

IIRC Turbo Tom was in the 11's in full race trim with 400+whp.
