Seeking Recommendations for Budget to Midrange Speakers

Hi all,

I'm seeking recommendations for my 1999 Nissan Maxima. I recently bought a Kenwood KDC-X993 head unit, but am holding off installing it until I upgrade my speakers as well. Since I'm a newbie to this whole game, I was hoping some of you could recommend me some budget to midrange priced speakers or component speakers to go for. For now, I'll probably be running them without an external amplifier, at least until I can save up to purchase one. My doors and rear deck will both take 6.75" speakers.

Basically, I'm looking for the best bang for the buck here.

hey man i bought a pair of ID ctx series components and have them off of my head unit right now as i am waiting for my 125.2 to arrive but even off of just head unit power they are very clean sounding components. as they are all i have heard other than some higher end focal components, i would recommend them for you. they can be had for about 180 online and i would say they are well worth that price. i had to make a mdf baffle of course since my doors were 6.75 as well and i needed the extra room for window clearance but thats only minor things. might be something you would be interested in looking into.

6.75 is such a odd number.

if you built a mdf baffle board you'll beable to put 6.5 thur 7 inch mids.

if your'e not useing an external amp it will hard to help you pick a good set of comps?

you never say what your budget is???

if i where you i would buy your comps & amp around the same time.

but if not look into these, you can power these off your deck, but remember it will sound ok

try to focus on your front stage first

lower end bostons run off deck power very well and sound almost as good as a midlevel comp set does.

I think 6.5" can fit in my openings. I'd like to get an external amp as well, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at in terms of cost here. I'd like to spend under $200 for components. Not looking to compete or anything, just want great sound quality on a budget.

So I've been trying to do some of my own research. I've noticed quite a few threads talking about the budget Phoenix Gold RSD65cs. Also some which mentioned the Pioneer Premier TS-D720C. Of course, as mastergunsx15 mentioned, I've also seen some comments on the Image Dynamics CTX65CS.

Of the three above, which do you all prefer, and why? Also, out of those, do you have other preferences within the same budget range?

I just installed the Premiers yesterday in a friends ride.

A little lacking in mid bass but he's only running them at 50 RMS though.

All around they sound **** good. I'm glad I got to hear them. I would say with an added midbass for three way and no cut to the tweeter you'd be sitting pretty.

Thats the only set I have heard for myself.
