Sealed or Ported

I always thought that if you wanted more spl out of the sub then you get a ported box, and if you want to be able to hit the real low bass with your sub you get a sealed box. However, in some of the posts i have read people claimed that the ported boxes can hit lower than the sealed. Is this true? If so what are the advantages of the sealed box then?

Depending on how the box is built, a sealed may hit lower or higher than a ported box. If the ported box is tuned low, then it can hit lower than a sealed box, but if it's tuned high, then it probably won't hit as low as a sealed box. A sealed box is a little more accurate than a ported box, but I've heard that if you compare the exact same setup, except sealed vs. ported, the ported is about twice as loud (3db). So if you want it to be as loud as possible, go ported, but if you wanna save some space and have a smaller box that sound a little better, then get sealed.

isnt it a ported box can be smaller and be the same "loudness" as a little bigger sealed? ported will sound great if you tune it right and set the gains and freq. good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
