sealed or ported for a 12w3

Should i go with a sealed box for more SQ or a ported for SQL, which would be best for this subwoofer?? i'm going to use a 300rms alpine amp on it, the v12 series

i would go with a low tuned box around 25 hz.. should be good for SQ and give you the thump you desire... if thats what you desire...i don't personally know what you desire... i can just hope im not what you desire... or who you desire

i have 3 w3v2 10s in a sealed enclosure. had them in a ported enclosure, just didnt feel right.

yep port and tune low, i recconmend 27hz - 30hz

aight, i want deep loud bass, but i don't want it to not sound good with rock, i'm planning on have two of these, just getting one at a time just wasn't sure which would be best for this sub

what do you mean it didn't feel right?

it just didnt. IMO, ported boxes only beat sealed boxes in output. and with 3 tens, it already got loud enough for my tastes. the sealed box was so much more accurate and had more sq for rock music. its just a matter of personal taste.

its what u like man, i mean if u like quality sounding bass then go sealed, if youd like to be a lil louder go ported.

but when i think about it, if i was using a single 12 w3 with 300 watts, i'd probably port it too, just low though to about 27-28 Hz.

seeing how in your sig it says you can customize boxes, would you come up with the dimensions for me so i can make the ported box?

for a sealed box, its usually ok to go prefab, just as long as its within +/- 10% of the suggested volume. it'll most likely end up looking cleaner too.

however, going prefab on a ported box is almost always never a good thing to do.

if you're interested in buying box plans from me, i'd be more than happy. since you plan on building your own box anyways and its a relatively small enclosure, you'll definitely have enough wood to make yourself both a ported and sealed box. after you build that first ported box, building an extra sealed box will be cake for you. this way, you can test which sound best appeals to your tastes.

i have a vid of my 10w3 in a 2cube box tuned at 29hz....and it sounds sweet as hell.......well i do have 600 watts going to it.......but it shows no sign of stress
