running below impedence

i just got a amp that is not really compatible with my sub,but its too much trouble to try and rewire the sub for a higher impedence due to the nature of the install.if i run this amp temperarily at lower than its rated impedence, can i turn the gains waaaaay down so the sub just plays a little without cooking the amp?its a 08 rf punch 2 x 50. 2x 100 @ 2 ohms so basically, will the amp see less strain with the gains set very low even at lower impedance?

It will still reach its thermal limits pretty quickly, quicker than it would at rated impedance. It may work being that rockford amps are pretty tough, but I wouldn't try it for long. The protection will kick in but why keep testing it?
