rms watts on your speakers

me and at least a dozen others on here have them on amps with the gains set for 150 watts rms per side. they take it like a champ all day long and sound amazing doing it!

another thing you gotta understand is they will never see 150 watts rms if you set the gains right. music is very dynamic.

well i am not sure how to set everything on a amp for door speakers or tweeters only subs

but when u say 150 to each side is tht front and back or only front 150 per speaker

i am only running the rsd's in the front, i am not using any rears.

to set the gains: find a -3db 1khz test tone and burn it onto a cd. unhook the speakers from the amp, hook a DMM to the speaker terminals on the amp(set it to a/c volts). turn the volume up to the number you would listen at(roughly 2/3 or 3/4 of the way up on most head units). play the test tone on repeat. start with the gain all the way down and slowly turn it up till you get the desired number to read on the DMM.

for 150 watts at 4 ohms the number you want to see on the display will be 24.5 volts a/c.

to get this you take the ohms(4) and multiply it by the wattage(150) and then take that number and get the square root of it. that number will be a/c volts.

now like i was saying before.... with the gains set this way the speakers should never see 150 watts rms. as long as you respect the volume knob and don't turn it past the point you used when you set the gains.

i have stuck the leads on the dmm on my speaker terminals while playing music loudly and i was only seeing numbers in the mid to high teens. for example 18 volts a/c is only 80 watts at 4ohms. then you have to factor in impedance rise as well. so i doubt my fronts have ever seen more than 100 watts for a very quick peak.

with all that being said they will be fine on 150 watts rms! :)

ok well i really like the gold speakers i plan on getting the 6.5 comps for the back and i have 6x8's in my front now how can i put 6.5 comps in the front as well

and also for the amp i am looking at a 350.4 bridged 2 ch at 4 ohms each speaker should see around 88rms would that be bout right and not worry bout blowing them and also be really loud

thanks

if you bridge that amp you can get more than 88 per side. here are the specs on that amp:

- 60 Watts x 4 RMS 4 ohms CEA rating

- 90 Watts x 4 RMS @ 2 ohms

**- 175 Watts RMS x 2 @ 4 ohms**

it will do up to 175 x2 at 4ohms. so take it, and bridge it and set the gains for 150 watts per side.

another option would be the zx450.2, if you're gonna use it as a 2 channel then why not just make is easier and get a 2 channel? the zx450.2 does 150 x2 at 4ohms. i got the zx550.2 cause i wanted a whole bunch of headroom but it's not really needed.

well thats only 75rms per speaker with the 350.4 bridged i will get 87.5rms to each speaker

another question will it sound good if i put no deadner or w/e its called the truck these are going in is a f150 4 door king ranch

also how can i make the 6.5 fit in the front

if you bridge it you will get way more than 87.5. i don't know where you are getting these numbers.

i would recommend deadener.

i am talking about the 350.4 says 175 x2 at 4ohms bridged that means each channel is putting out 175 i am going to be hooking up 2 speakers to one channel so thats 87.5 correct

and by the way i am only 17 soon to be 18 years old and i dont kno alot bout audio first system was 3 10's mtx with a 1200 watt sony amp so yea

and i have about a $2k dollar budget for subs, custom box, 4 door speakers, amp for subs, amp for doors, and a flip out dvd touchsreen hu.

i am going to have 4 speakers and i was wanting to bridge the 350 into 2 channels and hook up 2 speakers to each channel so 4 speakers to 2 channels is that possible

that doesn't really make sense. if it was me i would just bridge the amp and send all the power to the fronts. or just get a 2 channel for the fronts like i suggested before. if you need rears run them off the deck, whether it be the stock speakers or a nicer set. it sounds much nicer having most of the sound up in front of you. i have just fronts and it is plenty. it fills the whole car with out a problem.
