Okay, today my stereo was acting up, and i have NO IDEA why. The only change i've made to it in the last 4 months is i switched out my 2ch amp, all the wiring is the same and whatnot.

Anyways, two things happened on my way back to my dorm today. First, when i turned up the volume, my tweeters put out a lot of static when certain bass notes hit, and the bass was coming from the subs, not the speakers. This happened a while back for a day or two, but it went away on its own. But its happening again now. What would cause this?

Also, the subwoofers/amp were acting up too. I turned up the volume (not as high as i tuned it to, it could have put out more on any other day), and the subs totally shut off. Im not sure if it was the amp going into protect or the subs just stopped playing or not, but regardless i turned the HU off so everything shut off. About 5 seconds later, i turned everything back on at a low volume, and everything was playing again. the bass was sort of quiet for what the volume was at. About 10 seconds of music played, then there was a loud blurp from the subs, and then they played louder, like maybe only 1 was playing at one point (even though their wired into a 1 ohm load).

Now, at higher volume, the tweeter still puts out a static sound whenever a bass note hits (filters are set so they arent playing the bass note, which is weird), and the subs seem to get a distorted sound at somewhat higher volume.

Any ideas? the only thing i could think of is its been pretty cold here. It got down to about 5 degrees last night. when the problems began happening today, it was around 25 degrees.

definately not blaring it away, i always let my truck warm up for about 5 minutes before i drive when its this cold, and my stereo is on at this time, but definately not loud

It may be a bad ground with the amp....
ill have to check that. I have a feeling something happened to the amp because of the cold cold weather though. 20 degrees and a 1 ohm load might have something to do with it, even though i dont blare music when i first turn my stereo on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

anyone else have a possible solution/idea? To sum it up, tweeters get static/cut in and out at violent vibrations, like if the subs are up. Subs distort at medium volumes/high volumes, amp has gone into protect once.

All of this started happening yesterday, and i havent changed anything.

So, im up for any input, i checked my grounds and they appear fine, and besides ive been using the same grounds for a few months now. Is it safe to assume somethings f*cked?

first make sure you check everything..

battery terminal

fuses..

voltage

wiring behind radio

wire in the firewall (make sure it didnt get cut from rubbing)

grounds...

rcas

If its really cold there and your car is starting hard. it may be the load your putting on the alt. I have a cobalt SS and its cold as balls here so if i start my car and drive away with out it charging up completly it will make a loud shreaking noise scares the piss out of me sometimes lol

okay, diagnostic was somewhat successful! but i still dont know what may be wrong. The problem is definately the headunit/wiring behind the HU. Why? Its the LOW bass notes that are messing everything up, vibrating the HU (my dash kit is all plastic, hella gay). Also, when i drove over rough spots in the road here, my speakers would make the static noise. If i held my HU stiff with my hands, no more issues!

Okay, so now i needa figure out what is going on. Do you all think is the HU itself or some kind of wiring or something touching behind it? Whatever is happening is caused by the deep vibrations that the subs give off (playing below 35hz and i can literally watch my dash go up and down).

Turn it down... yeah ****in right lol

Brace the hell outta the head unit. Try foam blocks under the back of it or whatever you can think of. If that doesn't work, try a different head unit.

super conductivity doesnt occur until about 74 deg Kelvin

i dont think this is the issue though. This vibration is the sole reason i use my ipod instead of CD's. As in, it does this distorting of the subs and static in the speakers at deep vibrations with an ipod. something has to be going wrong with either A)the HU or B) the wiring, but i dont think there is any bare wiring back behind the HU //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

anyone?
