Reception Problem

I recently bought 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis window. Stock radio with an antenna passenger rear fender. It also has an antenna in the rear window and seems to have a solid connection. The problem I am having is with the AM reception. I get nothing but static until I raise the motorized antenna then reception is spotty particularly around electrical lines. I have no problem with FM even when the antenna is down.

I do not know how or what is attached. AM is no good without the motorized antenna. FM works with or without the motorized antenna. For me to check all the wiring I would have to pull out the back seat to check the amplifier and see what goes in and what goes out. I just haven't had time to do that. Then I have to check what goes into the radio. I have never seen two antennas going in to a radio before. Now today I had spots (short spots) where the AM was crystal clear so I just dont get it.

If you are receiving fm transmission perfectly then your antennas are either being blocked by something to capture lower frequencies, or they need to be replaced with better antennas.

This has nothing to do with wiring or the radio or else fm would be as bad as AM stations.
