Reasons Why The Metric System Better

To keep Loyd's thread clean...

-We have no unit for mass in the American system. The metric system has Kilograms. Kilograms (grams) make sence because 1litre of water = 1kilo. The gram makes scence as 1gram=1mol of Hydrogen.

-Measurement makes no sence at all. We use fractions instead of decimals, 12"=1 foot. 3 feet = 1 yard. 66 feet = 1 chord or what ever it is, 5280 feet = 1 mile... 1 meter....move the decimal place to get anything else, nanometer to kilometer.

-Measurment of force makes scence. 1 newton = 1kilo*9.8m/s^2 (gravity). Pounds...are pounds. We have no mass measurment.

-Volume makes scence because 1 litre = 1kilo of water. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

-Energy makes scence. We have two different types of callories and all this other crap. The metric system uses Joules. 1 newton applied over 1 meter.

-Power makes scence. One joule per second. Horsepower is 33,000ft/lbs/min? WTF?

-Distance makes scence. 10,000,000m from the equator to the north pole.

-Temperature makes scence. 1 degree celcius is 1 100th of the temperature difference between the melting and boiling points of water. Celcius is also the same incraments as Kelvin and come up with an even number to reach absolute zero. 0k=-273* C

-Every other country in the world as far as I know uses the metric system. Are us americans so advanced that only we use this highly sophisticated standard of measurments...well except the science community. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

Tell me how Standard/Imperial units are better in any way. "Because I grew up with it" is not an answear.

....and Miles are way better than Kilometers.... kilometers are too short //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

i think most engineering students would agree that the metric system is MUCH easier to work with.
i agree. at school when doing engineering problems, it was about 90% in metric. it's such a PITA to do problems with english. the metric system is so much cleaner and easier to use. but here in the states we are so used to the english system that i don't think a change here will happen.
