Hello everyone, I'm new so I may not know much, and may even be in the wrong thread (lol) If so, could a moderator please move this to where I could get the best help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif but I have some questions for you guys. First off, I have a kicker Zx250.2 amp attached to 2 Volfenhag 500 RMS 12" subs. It's in a box that I got with them, made of particle board and a thin carpet layout on the outside. I thought they used to hit pretty hard, but I went to a friends and she had a 8" mobile sub in a probox! Had a cobalt 500.1 amp, and I read put out 175 RMS to that one speaker. THAT CRAP HIT HARD! Harder than my two 12's I'll be completely honest. The amp isn't any stronger, and the speaker is smaller so how did it hit that hard?? Is it because of the Probox?? I would really like to know. Should I buy a probox? I found one on ebay and it's 2x deeper than my subs, they are like 6 n a half inches deep. I was kind of embarrassed because that speaker would rattle crap outside of the car, with such a little speaker and amp. Is it because of my box that my speakers and amp are so inferior? Boxes make a huge difference in the way one setup sounds in comparison to another...that's the only way I'd explain what happened there....what is a "mobile sub" anyway? lol

Do I think you should buy a PROBOX? not really.....I'd just have a custom box built around your subs, whether u decide to keep those subs or swap them for something better (which is what I would do)

I know my box has to be bad, it being particle board. I looked up mobile subs and I couldn't find any either. It was just a 8" and it say Mobile on the front of the cone. :\

How much is a custom box build? I like my subs, plus I don't really have the money to get some awesome ones. Would a good box improve them a ton? Like more than her one 8" lmao?

was this the sub?

It depends on your application as far as price. I would think with that much more cone area, you should be louder than her one 8...or AT LEAST on par.
talk to some box builders here about it....like @pro\-rabbit or @Buck or @Moble Enclosurs .... they can help u with a design....although, I'm inclined to say to just wait until u can afford better subs. It may not cost as much as u think to get something a little better.....

Yeah that's pretty much just like it. Is it a off brand or something? I had heard volfenhag's were competitive and really good especially for the money, they handle pretty good wattage I had heard. If I just got one box and put my 12" in it and hooked the amp up just to it would it be louder? Mine wasn't THAT for from hers, so If I got a custom box wouldn't that bump me up a good bit higher than her?

That would be Cerwin vega....pretty respected brand.

I have never seen Volfenhags as competitive or really good, unless I missed a line of subs they made at some point, or they were good waaaay back.

If you're open to doing a single 12 setup, I'd sell both your 12s and get one nice 12 and put it in a proper box, powered correctly and u bet the hairs on your ballzack you'll be louder than her single 8 in that Probox.

If you really want to keep the Volfenhags, I wouldn't drop down to one of them unless lack of space required it. Keep running 2 and get a good box for them.

What's a good 12" I can look at the isn't ridiculously expensive? And both of the volfenhag's put in good boxes would still be pretty good? A lot better than in my particle wood box lol. Cerwin Vega expensive? Her whole system ended up costing her 1800$. Which included tweeters and stuff, no head unit. Pretty sure she got ripped off if she paid 1800 for a single 8" sub, Probox, and tweeters.....matter of fact, she got *****, if she paid that. I personally think she lied to u. There's no way in hell she paid 1800 for that.

Sundown SA-12, SSA GCON, Obsidian OA 12, SSA DCON 12, Sundown E12....these are all good subs that can do well in the right install....just depends on what you're willing to spend.... All of those listed subs are $200 or less.

I told her she got *****, by labor charges lol. Plus profits on every tweeter and speaker.. She lived in kansas and said everything there is stupid high so Idk. What about kicker competitives? I heard those are good. One day I'll upgrade but for now I'll stick with my Volf's. Should I put them both in one both or one in it's own box? And just the box adding will make the subs noticeably louder right?

Kicker Comps (black n yellow ones) are...meh, nothing special. The CVRs, though, are decent for the price of like 70 bucks on ebay. They can get pretty loud too for what they are...

The box should make a pretty big difference....also, what ohm are your subs? dual 4 ohm? wired to 2 ohms per channel?

yes they are dual 4 ohm. Basically, it dictates how much power your amp is proving to your sub. If your amp is rated at say 300rms at 2 ohms and u take a dual 4 ohm sub and parallel wire it to 2 ohms, you're giving the sub 300rms.

your amp is bridged with both subs so you're probably at 4 ohms final. meaning each sub is getting about 125rms
