questions on RE SX 15

I'll be getting an RE SX 15 here soon and this is my first I guess you could say high end sub. Aside from the XXX and MT anyways...

Im worried about my amp not being big enough or not giving it enough power.

Its a Hifonics BX1000D and here lately Ive been hearing junk about Hifonics and how they really arent a that great. Well, the SX is 1000W RMS and 2000W Max if I remember correctly...

This will be a daily driver, but I still want it to be at its full potential. So I dont really want to hold it back.

So how many watts should I be giving this sub? Is my amp enough or should I look into getting a bigger/better brand amp?

Also, anyone thats had their SX 15 metered, what did you hit? ported? sealed? tuning?

Quite naturally I will have mine ported and I was going to give it 3.5cuft, although Im not sure what to tune it to. So any insight on that would be wonderful.

Another issue Im kinda concerned with is the SQ of the sub. Ive heard its a little on the shotty side but it makes up with SPL. Just how bad is the SQ? Is it just Oh My God that sucks or Eh...not bad??

That amp will be fine. I doubt you'd hear much, if any difference between 800 watts and 1200 watts on that sub. Its sq does ****, especially compared to the xxx.

What would you compare the SQ to?

And like on a scale from 1 to 10 and 1 being "i could make better sound quality with lube and my ***"

i had the 12 and yes the SQ did **** but it wasn't the worst i've ever heard. Had way better SQ than my AW1206T but it was also tuned lower.

I'd say about a 5/10 for the SQ part lol. Just get some real nice comps up front to compliment it and you won't really be able to tell the difference. SQ is opinion based anyway.

i think the sq is pretty decent myself.. i think it hits the lows pretty well... i have mine in a 4 cube box tuned to 35 and it really wangs... especially with little john and 3 6 mafia music... i get pretty good response from evanescense to... but, i don't have much experience with sq subs so i guess what sounds good to me won't sound good to someone else, BUT to say the sq of it sucks is far from accurate... i would give it a 7/10, a 10 being an xxx/w7

i would like to hear an xxx sometime to compare..

personally, i don't think you will be dissappointed unless you had a brahma or an xxx before... What it lacks in sq it makes up for with spl for sure...

I'm biased too. If I never heard a XXX, I would probably think the sq of a SX was pretty decent. In my opinion, the SX isn't awful. It's a 6/10 in my book.

I didnt enjoy the SQ out of my 15 SX. I had it in a 4 cube box after port displacement. Hit 141.5 I believe on the Termlab. It was tuned to 35 hrtz. Built another box and tuned it to 33 hrtz. Didnt like how it couldnt hit the higher notes. It does however get loud.

As for the wattage, you will be fine. Just dont crank up that amp too much, trying to get as much wattage out of it as possibly by clipping the amp. I had mine running around 1400 rms

i had one of mine in 3.4 cubes to 34Hz for a while with about 600w-800w

shook the shit out of my car, and was clean and fairly decent sounding in doing so

In the right box yes, id shoot for a kx1200.1/orion 1200D/viper d1200.1

I looked into the vipers and that kicker amp and they are a bit pricey for me

List price is $1,000 for the kx1200.1! But you get what you pay for I reckon....

I'll keep a look out tho
