I have a old sony EXM 502 Amp (50X2, Bridged at 100) I found the Amp at a yard sale and bought it for 10.00 USD. The problem I am having is the Amp is possibly to strong for the 12" subwoofer I am pushing with it?? The subwoofer is a KOVE Audio KLD Series II Referance Series. The woofer has 2 inputs on it, one on each side of the basket. When I bought it the guy told me to run a jumpper wire from the + on one side to the - on the other and then attach my Amp's + on one side and the - on the other. He didnt explain why.
My amp is bridged so I have 100w pushing this subwoofer, problem is its totaly pounding the crap outa the woofer and it sounds realy distorted and crappy overall. I have the amp set to LPF "low-pass filter?" and the woofer is an a nonported box that meets the airspace requirements for the woofer.
several things that I have identified as possible issues with my set up.
1. the RCA wires have been spliced "were in the car when i bought it." they may be inverting the signal from my CD Player. Would this be a possible reason for distortion?
2. should I just run 50w to each of the woofers inputs, insted of having 100w running through the woofer in series with the jumpper?
3. should I port the box, if yes what would be the best way to do so?
4. should i face the woofer to the backside of the rear seats inside the trunk, or up towards the trunk lid, or back towards the rear of the car for best sound?
The woofer is moving so much it looks dangerous, so I havent ran it more than a few secconds because I do ot want to damage it. Its probably moving 2.5in +/- from its neutral position "much more than other woofers I have seen in action"
