I am about to install 2 JL 12W3's and an alpine m650 amp which is 600rms to power them. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-54oNdp2...0&I=500MRPM650

I didnt get a box yet and would like to know what type i should get for a rsx type s. what would you recommend, sealed, enclosed or ported and where is a good place to order one because i do not have to tools to make one right now.

Also, where can i get a good set or power cables and rcas online for a good price.

Thanks

I had 2 JL 12w3's sealed in my last jeep, 95 Grand Cherokee, and it sounded pretty good and got decently loud, it was definitely a nice setup. How good are you at building boxes? If you have experience then I would say why not port them, unless you dont care about the extra output. Or you could always go sealed and upgrade later if its not loud enough for you.

The car is a hatchback, so would ported still be better. also i want to buy a pre-made box online. Can anyone recommend any ported or sealed for around $120 or less?

Thanks

thanks good to know. cant wait to hear them

Just to let you know most ppl on here are going to tell you to make your own box. Its not as hard as you think and it costs less, plus ppl can help you with designs and the entire process. Only buy a box if you have absolutely no time whatsover to spend building one.

updates.

I installed everything tonight and got it working, but i have a few questions.

First, i wired the subs to 4ohms which means the amp is putting out 400rms, is there anyway to wire these to two ohms so that it will be working at 600rms?

Will it be safe to run the amp at 2 ohms? The subs are dual 4 ohms each.

Secondly, what is the best way to adjust the settings on the amp for this setup? i always thought that the settings on a sub in a sealed box should be; 0 for bass boost, 80-100 for lpf and 75-80% on the gains. Will when i set the subs up this way the subs were hitting really low on the the max bass setting on the HU. the only hit when i turn the bass boost up all the way. Am i doing something wrong?

What is typically the best setup for these subs?

Thanks

with two DVC 4-ohm subs, you can run them in either 1ohm or 4ohm, so your answer would be no, you would not be able to run them at 2ohm. unless you only want to run 1 woofer.

settings...check the amp setting tutorial sticky in the amplifers sub section. my lp is set at 80hz.

is it unsafe to run that alpine amp at 1 ohm? I kind of did follow that, but it only gave good bass with the boost on. i want to know if there is anything wrong. are they being underpowered?

also on the alpine HU, the subs are controlled better by the bass adjustment than the subwoofer adjustment. The bass is currently at 6 and sub at 15, the gains are at 90%, the boost is at 50% and the lpf is at 90.

thanks

its a mid sized box built for the sub specs apparently. Its not my car, but i am doing the install for a friend who just buys the stuff. its a twin chamber box that has 75ish degree slope. How do i found out what the box is tuned at?

I had a pair of 12w3v2-d4 on a sealed box off a 750 watts amp at 4 ohm and it sounds pretty good and can get loud;) . Sincerely they don't hit as hard as I would like or as I was expecting them to sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif . I know if I port them I can gain some output, but that will be a box too large for what I want, and I already heard some set of two and three of them ported and I'm not that impressed.

That's why I will change them for a pair of 10w6v2, and port those.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

After reading what you just wrote I think you have them on a sealed box and was expecting them to sound as they were ported:crap: . Another issue is I think something is wrong on the way you are setting your bass/sub controls, with what you have they should be doing good.

If you are expecting some "earth shaking bass", then you chose the wrong subs.

If what you want is something nice to fill your low end, then good choice.

Keep us updated on how everything is coming out.
