Question in regards to mechanical limits

Ok, I am absolutely set on Incriminator audio, and after hours of watching videos of these subwoofers slamming and flexxing cars I have been convinced on the IA DP 21". I have an Orion HCCA 250r, 1ohm very stable a\b. This amplifier as most know puts out a very underated 800wrms@11v . So, with the DP 21" woofer thermally capable of 1500+wrms I will essentially be under powering the driver. This said, If I tune this driver to say 50hz for spl oriented application, and it hits a freq lower than tuning per say 30hz note. Am I looking at damage ? With such a large driver I am hoping to get around 140db and I will be jumping like a kid in a candy shop.

I listen to 90% rap, and I know tuning high would be for rock, but snoop dan tuned his mj18 to 50hz, and I believe he is where I got this understanding from. My van seems to resonate alot when hitting around the 40hz area.

2.) If instead the drivers fs pointing to a low tuned enclosure for the driver for best results and just wanting LOUD yet still somewhat accurate response what would you guys suggest?

How far you can deviate below tuning depends on several factors, including size of the enclosure and input power to the speaker. I agree that tuning that high is a mistake, unless the system is strictly for SPL burps.

High tuning is not 'for rock'... no idea where you got that notion from.

Many would assume this probably because rock has higher bass notes, 50-80 hz, as opposed to rap/hip hop

I'm sure you know already know this though.

with a woofer that size, tune it no higher than 35-40, and plan on getting a new amp 2000 watts or better. Hope you have a big SUV to put it in too. Why not go with a 18 or 2 15's, would prolly be louder anyways

2 15's have nearly the same amount of cone area as a 21" FYI.

21 has more cone area than an 18, obviously.

So to say 2 15's or an 18 would be louder isn't really based on anything, there would have to be other factors such as power to make them louder.

Well dual 15's would have twice the motor to soak up power. This would be especially helpful for output with a ported setup.

A lower tuning, and proper EQ'ing, will/can/should yield a flat response throughout the sub's entire freq band. That should make for good performance no matter what genre of music you are listening to.

Ive yet to hear a high tuned ported system I really enjoyed listening to. Even music that doesn't have alot of deeper bass still feels like its missing low-end presence. Not to mention, high tuning tends to exgarrate upper bass and midbass. But everybody has differences in personal preference.

if you want to tune a peak in the response for SPL, first find what the frequency of the vehicle should be.

I think you said a van, vans are pretty large so if you do not have a wall, it may peak anywhere from mid 30hz to mid 40hz range.

2) 15s have a potential to be louder than a single 21 because you can spread that power over more coils, 15s can be more efficient, and sometimes they will play more accurately.

My current system peaks around 39-41 hz and sounds incredible with rock music.
