Question for people that like ported..

I think it just depends on the application. If you have 15's tuned tothe mid to high 30's on 2kw each, then yes, your geared towards SPL

and should just admit it to yourself.

That does not mean every ported application is just geared towards spl.

Ported can take you quite low throughout the musical and audible range.
yep, mine is very musical and if you think mine dont slamm on good recorded rock songs like 3 doors down(17 days),and puddle of mudd, you've got another thing coming lol

dude, i am warning you. Don't do it, you will regret it. Sealed is much better for the music you listen to. You will lose all the bass notes that rock/metal provide if you port, and it will sound like ****.
you need to shut your hole unless you know what is coming outa it. Ported boxes CAN sound good with rock music too. its all how you build and tune the box.

LOL @ ported not sounding good with rock.

It's a shame this board isn't made up of more experienced members who pass along good info, and younger members who can sit back and absorb it with confidence while also humbly (and with an open mind) gaining their own experience. Oh, and female members who like to post nude pics.

Instead, we have very few seasoned members and a huge majority of young clowns who spout of a ton of garbage. Unfortunately, new members come on and don't know who to trust. At least half of them take the crap advice and it just breeds more clowns. Oh, and where are the chicks? ******* are good!

People just shouldn't give such headstrong advice unless they really know what they are talking about.

Ported can sound great with any type of music. It's not just for rap or SPL. Man, I hope no one really believes that garbage Insupasmomsom01 has been posting.

Same here.

2 Type R 15s in 7 cubes tuned to 33 hz. Hits hard. Sounds great with anything I throw at it. To be honest, I don't go around listening to 12 hz test tones or anything like that, but since when is that music? Besides, there aren't exactly a ton of subs out there that play that low in any enclosure.

As someone (wise) said earlier in the thread, 99% of real music is above 30hz anyway.

Now I will be honest and say that I usually run sealed, but I have run some ported enclosures tuned to about 32hz and one tuned to about 28hz. I ended up going back to sealed.
The thing I didnt like about ported was it seemed anything below the tuning freq wasnt even there, and I mean anything! Lets take a song like Bass I Love You just so we can have a basis for comparison. Theres a very low note that hits right after the initial bass, to me that is my favorite type of bass, the REALLY low stuff.

Every time I had ported that note was almost non-existent, ssf wasnt on at the time and the subs were going crazy! Obviously.

So my question to you guys is, do you run ported because you want it loud and you dont care about the REALLY low stuff? How does the song I mentioned play with your ported system?

i'm ported and i can go WAAAAYYYY down low //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

but some of the higher stuff isn't as strong as the bottom end

What about the low note i the song I mentioned?

idk. i'd have to play it.

money says i can rock that **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

curious.... what freq is it? that lil wyte song (with the crazy notes) i can hit them all, but some are too low where you can't hear it. only feel **** shaking.

Never said ported sounded bad, it just seems* that people who run ported either dont care about the content they are missing, or dont know about the content they are missing;)

I was referring to the other guy who thinks he knows it all. I personally prefer sealed, but I have heard ported setups that can sound good and suit my tastes...there's just not too many of them. I know exactly what you mean though. One of the ported setups I heard was tuned to 16 Hz I think. It was something below 20. The other was in the mid 20's.

whatever man, i have had 2 ported enclosures and 1 sealed in the same car with the same woofers and the sealed sounds much better. Whatever you guys say though, you are the experts at everything. But i will never go ported again in a daily setup.
It all depends on the enclosure. If you tune the enclosure high, then musically I would agree that sealed can sound better. It just depends on what you tune it. But you cant blatantly just say I've had ported but sealed sounds better, because you're not referring to what you had it it tuned to, enclosure size, what sub, etc.

Very true, the enclosure has to be designed for the speaker. Just throwing a

speaker in a ported enclosure does not often yield optimal results. How much

air space, how much port area, what model of subwoofer, what crossover point

and sff cutoff; in what vehicle, with what box placement? It all comes together for

your application. Unless you just throw your subs in a ported box and say they

don't sound as good.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I run ported and i prefer it over sealed. To me it hits the lows better than ported.

Might not be quite as punchy but it loves rolling bass.

specs

2.5 cubes

tuned to 30hz

Love my box..
