Now I will be honest and say that I usually run sealed, but I have run some ported enclosures tuned to about 32hz and one tuned to about 28hz. I ended up going back to sealed.

The thing I didnt like about ported was it seemed anything below the tuning freq wasnt even there, and I mean anything! Lets take a song like Bass I Love You just so we can have a basis for comparison. Theres a very low note that hits right after the initial bass, to me that is my favorite type of bass, the REALLY low stuff.

Every time I had ported that note was almost non-existent, ssf wasnt on at the time and the subs were going crazy! Obviously.

So my question to you guys is, do you run ported because you want it loud and you dont care about the REALLY low stuff? How does the song I mentioned play with your ported system?

i had two L7 15" tuned to 30 and i could crank bass i love you, the low note your talking about wasnt very prevelant but it still shook my car pretty good, and i go ported becuase i like it a little louder in the range it hits more than a smoother freq response down lower, i think it depends on what kind of music you listen to alot also

ported goes louder than sealed...but it all depends on the box thoug...with me im tired with my sealed box....i wana ported thoug...=)!!...

Im sure it depends on a lot of factors like amount and size of subs, but I never really run anything more than 2 12's. I enjoy a well recorded rock song more than anything, but I still like hearing/feeling everything down to the lowest stuff.

while stating my pref as sealed i also have personal goals of shaking my own windows not the house i drive by or the car next to me. Most of my systems have ben crazy loud inside and not too too bad outside.

dude, i am warning you. Don't do it, you will regret it. Sealed is much better for the music you listen to. You will lose all the bass notes that rock/metal provide if you port, and it will sound like shit.

If you have the space for an extra large box then you can get lower with the right sub ported, but if size or cost is an issue, than yea sealed would probably be better for low notes.

Dont get me wrong, ported is louder, another example is a friend has two Kicker CVX12's in a proper sized box tuned to 31hz. He was blasting that Put On song, I said I want to hear that in my car, and that last low bass hit was MUCH louder and intense in my car than his.

but doesnt it matter on the power too?..ported=you could add more power than sealed...correct me if im wrong

Im just trying to figure out if you do in fact lose most of the super low stuff by running ported, vs sealed, or was I just doing something wrong!?

I dont hear about too many people tuning to anything below 28hz!
