Question for people that like ported..

Ummm, if you go ported and tune low, you will cover the majority of the sub bass frequencies in the musical spectrum. If you tune it high, of course it won't sound as musical as a sealed enclosure. But surely ported doesn't sound like crap and is not intended for just output.

Never said ported sounded bad, it just seems* that people who run ported either dont care about the content they are missing, or dont know about the content they are missing

The free-air resonance of an 18 is pretty much always lower than their smaller counterparts...that probably has some effect on their abilities in lower bass compared to smaller subs..

true, but usually not enough to make a huge difference. saying only an 18 will play below tuning is ignorant

"Im sure it depends on a lot of factors like amount and size of subs"

Im well aware that total surface area could have an affect on low hz performance.

Well, Im really starting to think I have the best setup for my needs. I dont want to take up my whole trunk with a low tuned ported box. Im satisfied with what I have now. I guess with all they hype of a ported enclosure I was expecting too much.
What I learned:

I say 18s because people in this thread that say they can hit the super lows ported have 18's..........duh

oh, i see. since they have 18s, they must be right

my points are: ported can sound just as good as sealed. sealed usually tends to reproduce subsonic frquencies better than ported, unless the box is tuned rediculously low. and size doesnt dictate frequency response.

if i had known you were this ignorant, i wouldnt have bothered helping

my 15" dp hits the lows ported too, maybe not as low as my 18" btl buy still got plenty low
