Question for people that like ported..

Im just trying to figure out if you do in fact lose most of the super low stuff by running ported, vs sealed, or was I just doing something wrong!?
I dont hear about too many people tuning to anything below 28hz!

i friend of mine had a 15 (dont remember what sub)...but he had his box tuned to 24hz...super low....it flexed the shit out of his car....and sounded loud...but only with rap or bass songs...

Thats because not many people care about notes that low, for most music other than chopped/screwed and the occasional house song those notes are all random things like echo picked up from the mics. I do have a fondness for Bass I Love You though. ( I think that goes down to something crazy like 11-12hz)

any body who recommends ported for any other reason than getting loud is a moron. I've ran ported and sealed and the sealed made my rock/metal sound much better, and the rap bass is much more punchy.

people that run ported just want to get loud, my type r's sound way better sealed and i ran them ported for almost a year.

whatever, my point is that if you listen to rap then go ported. If you like to expand you musical taste and listen to something other, go sealed. You already stated you like rock, so what the hell?

Now I will be honest and say that I usually run sealed, but I have run some ported enclosures tuned to about 32hz and one tuned to about 28hz. I ended up going back to sealed.
The thing I didnt like about ported was it seemed anything below the tuning freq wasnt even there, and I mean anything! Lets take a song like Bass I Love You just so we can have a basis for comparison. Theres a very low note that hits right after the initial bass, to me that is my favorite type of bass, the REALLY low stuff.

Every time I had ported that note was almost non-existent, ssf wasnt on at the time and the subs were going crazy! Obviously.

So my question to you guys is, do you run ported because you want it loud and you dont care about the REALLY low stuff? How does the song I mentioned play with your ported system?

Your ID max's ported to 26-28hz in 2.5-3 cubes each should sound like ***.

Im not trying to talk about which one sounds "better" and what not. I just dont get why when you see those threads about "What box to use" 99.9% of people say ported. Yeah, yeah, yeah, most "noobs" just want LOUD, but Im actually surprised more people dont care about hearing ALL the bass!

Rock sounds good too on my MJ's ported...granted it sounded a little bit better when they were sealed...but they are quite a bit louder...and I think to most people would agree the added output is worth the loss of SQ, you don't have to ONLY want loud to justify going ported...

Right but at the same time theres a LOT of folks who swear by ported for all types of music!

about 99.9% of music is at least within reach of any ported box tuned to around 30hz

If you really want this material to show up alot, try tuning down there...? this isn't that complicated
