Question for people that like ported..

Right but at the same time theres a LOT of folks who swear by ported for all types of music!
i agree, but i've ran both and i can tell a huge difference between the two. I am not going to judge whether or not it is worth it to go ported anymore, it all depends on the music you listen to. I listen to mostly rock/metal so i decided to seal mine, but to each there own.

I think it just depends on the application. If you have 15's tuned to

the mid to high 30's on 2kw each, then yes, your geared towards SPL

and should just admit it to yourself.

That does not mean every ported application is just geared towards spl.

Ported can take you quite low throughout the musical and audible range.

Car audio is much different then Home Audio because of the accoustics. I love my low tuned (24hz) home system, but have found 26 to 28 is about as low as you can go in a car with good sound quality. It will not be as loud as the people who port subs at 35 to 40 hz and win contest, but it will sound more natural.

It is all opinion based though, everyone likes something a little different.

My guess is that ur doin it wrong.

Name 10 songs that have any significant content below 10hz
20?

30?

about 99.9% of music is at least within reach of any ported box tuned to around 30hz

If you really want this material to show up alot, try tuning down there...? this isn't that complicated
I would say you are almost correct, but to me the lower the hz the better. I can see your point, but is there really a reason to tune THAT low when a sealed box can do the same in a smaller space? Will a super low tuned ported box still be louder in the >30hz region to justify the size difference?

dont rule out sq with a ported enclosure though. i prefer a larger sealed box with rock/metal anyday, but if you like rap that can work as well. theres not much in music below 35 or so anyway. a ported enclosures natural freq.. drop off is much steeper than a sealed one.

im also a fan of tuning around 30 hz or so. but i know someone who swears he loves his ported box tuned at 40 for metal/rock. makes sense cause the freq. response on a box tuned that high would actually have a rise in freq area that audio engineers sometimes put emphasis on the kick or bass line depending on the mix. and engineers will hp a mix at around 35hz. unless its a bassy mix.

no it will be louder down to it's tuning, significantly louder depending on the sub used, sealed rolls off really early, it just does it slowly. You would also have to take into account cabin gain where most larger vehicles peak lower and would be better for a low tuned system.

Idk you tell me, MJ-18 sealed vs ported @ 26hz (not even much lower than many people tune):

Obviously it is subwoofer dependant...and a sub that doesn't do well ported to begin with, or that does very well sealed, will show less of an improvement. A sub that doesn't do well sealed will show a huge improvement.

and whoever siad anything below 20 hz being echoes in the recording, if its studio recorded, rt60 in those live rooms are kept under control. a 20 hz echo would be a huge room! besides they would hp that content anyway.

That was me, and I listen to lots of live music.
