I am going to finish my sound system wiring and install my amp/s and subs in my 81 TA and was interested in seeing if you guys had any guidance to a couple of issues that are new to me.
Here's what I got, I took it out of my 02 Eldorado, I really liked the sound I had and want to get as close as I can, it was very clean, crisp, and detailed, and plenty loud enough, only difference is I had the MB Quart PWC 6.5(The premium series, I know some, or most do not like the sound of MB's, but I do, maybe it was because they were set up correctly, cause although I have heard MB's that sounded bright, mine did not), I left them in the car (I know what some of you are thinking, "smart move"). I am setting my old system up in a restored 81 ***** Am, and I do not have the options to experiment with tweeter placement, so I am putting 6.5 coaxials in the doors.
My system consists of an Eclipse 55040 HU, PPI PCX 480 amp (80 x 4), and 2 10" MB Quart RWC 254's (ref. series), Dual VC's, 130 to 250 watts. The subs are already in a dual box and wired together. I had my PPI brigded going to the subs.
My main question is since I am having to go with coaxials should I add an amp for more power, my TA has a pretty loud 455 (460 HP w/ headers), because if I do, I have a Planet Audio TT4400 (4 x 80 also) that I was thinking of hooking to my Subs, and running my PPI for just the coaxials, or can you even bridge a 4 ch like that, or is the difference in comp/coax. not that much where I will be fine with the way I had it in the Eldo.
My 2cd question is about coaxials vs components with the tweeter mounted on the mid, does one have a benefit over the other for my install, I would think coaxials would be better since the tw. is designed to be with the mid, but I am not sure.
I listen to all kinds of music, mostly Classic Rock and Roll, but alot of country too. I like to use my subs to play the bass notes so my front stage can sound loud and clear, but on certain songs with some bass, I do like to use my sub control to turn up the subs and feel/hear some good bass, so I am kinda in between.
My budget is fairly open, I am thinking 2 to $300 but if I need to spend up to 5 to accomplish my goal, I can do that as well.
Thx in advance for any input. David C.
