Protection Mode ?

Ok I know, another one of these. I tried searching but I still cant get a clear answer. My situation is as follows:

2 12" Alphasonik 800 series subs in a Doubleshot

JBL 1201.1 amp powering the duo at 2 ohms

The first day I slapped this amp on everything was like clockwork. After that I cant remember exactly how many days it was, I noticed my bass would disappear. I parked my car and noticed that the amp would go into protection mode. Even at very low volumes. At first I thought it was because of the notes maybe being to low for my setup but then it started to go into protection mode with alot of different types of songs. I changed my ground from an 8 gauge to a 4 gauge. That didnt help anything. I redid all of my wiring inside of the box, hoping something was loose. No luck again. I turned down my settings on my head unit as well as the amplifier, still the same thing.

Anybody have any suggestions? This amp worked perfectly fine at 4 ohms. I didnt think 2 ohms would be a problem. Thanks for any input

Having it wired at 2 ohms is not a problem for this amp, it is 2 ohm stable (As long as you are sure it is wired right) Is the amp hot when it goes into protection mode? Also upgrading your ground was a good idea to try, you may also want to try and move your ground, make sure you sand it down real good so it is a nice clean surface then mount it real tight. Also check again all the speaker wiring going to the subs. Check and make sure that it is wired for 2 ohms also. You can use a DMM if you like (It will probably be between 1.7 and 2.2 ohms, if not then you have it wired wrong or one of your subs may be bad.

Thanks for the input. I will use a DMM to check what ohm load is being presented to the amplifier.

One thing I did notice is that it goes into protection, usually after a turn or sudden motion. I guess I should mention that since I just threw it in I have not mounted it yet. However, my ground, power and remote seem to be in place. If anything the RCAs are a bit stretched.

The reason I haven't mounted the amp is because I don't really know where to do it. I want to mount it on to the back of the box but I heard horror stories about amps rattling to death.

Well if it only turns off when you go around turns then I doubt that your have them wired for the wrong ohm rating. So it boils down to pretty much being your speaker wires maybe hitting each other while you are turning and shorting out, or I would put my money on the ground wire loose or just in a bad place. Where do you have it grounded, did you sand it down real good, and check to make sure it is still tight.

The first thing that I would try is checking all of the speaker connections and the wire all the way along, make sure nothing is touching, then I would try and relocate the ground, you never know you may have picked a bad place. I am going to sleep now but ill be back on tom to help you out some more if you dont get it figured out.

I ended up checking my subs with a DMM and I showed a 1.8 ohm load. Which sounds about right. As for my ground, it is in the best spot I could find. It doesn't move or anything.

Today, however, when I was driving my bass cut off completely. This time it would not come back like it usually did. I checked everything and found out I was not getting power. I checked my fuses which still looked in tact. Then I decided to try another fuse. The one I originally had in was a generic brand "100 amp" fuse. I swapped it out with a 40 amp stinger and it works fine now. It has not cut off once, even playing the songs that made me nervous. That just left me wondering, can a bad fuse cause an amp to go into protection mode?
