Hey guys. Having some issues with my speakers on my boat. When I turn the volume up more then 3/4 of the way the speakers cut out and amp goes into protection mode. I have turned all settings down/off on the amp and it is still doing the same thing.

It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue with audio systems, particularly when it comes to high volume settings. Here are some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the problem with your Kicker speakers and amplifier:

1. Check Wiring

  • Connections: Ensure that all speaker and power connections are secure. Loose connections can create impedance issues, causing the amp to go into protection mode.
  • Wire Gauge: Make sure you are using the correct gauge wire for your setup. If the wire is too thin, it can cause resistance and overheating, triggering protection mode.
  • Speaker Wiring: Verify that the speakers are wired correctly (positive to positive, negative to negative) and that there aren’t any shorts between the positive and negative wires.

2. Load Impedance

  • The Kicker 48KMA600.4 amplifier is rated to run at 2 to 8-ohm loads. Make sure that the impedance of the speakers matches what the amp can handle.
  • If you have wired multiple speakers in parallel, check their combined impedance. An impedance that is too low can push the amp into protection.

3. Gain Settings

4. Check for Overheating

5. Input Signal

6. Speaker Load

7. Check Amplifier Settings

8. Test with a Multimeter
