Problem with Rainbow Germaniums

I have a '94 Corvette with Germaniums in the front and rear (6.5 components). The rear enclosure is sealed and probably has 2 cubic feet, the front is semi-open and has maybe .5 cu feet. Anyways the front/rears are hoked up to a Zapco 1000.5 giving 150 watts rms to each speaker. The gains are all the way down and if I turn the gain up just a little the protection light comes on for the Germaniums crossover. They get loud enough for me but this doesn't seem right, I think they are rated at 100 watts, do I have a bad component somewhere either the crossovers or speakers? Or maybe a bad connection, has anyone had this problem?

you can check your wireing again but in all reality dont expect lots of volume out of the germs. I got rid of them for that same reason...
So you had to keep your gains all the way down too or else you'd get that protection light from the crossovers come on? I'd really like to keep them as the rear gets loud enough and they sound really good, well the rear does since it's in a proper enclosure.

Well it looks like the amp itself may have been causing this as it just died after 30 min of play, thats the second defective Zapco amp in a row I got from Woofersetc.
