well, thats out..looks to be fine to me.

only other thing i could think of would to be to test each coil with a dmm...if things happened the way you said, you shouldnt have problem getting it warrantied..

yea test the coils out man. see if they read the correct resistance.

also see if you can get a tiny flashlight and check the coil inside there. you can see it in the pictures pretty well. if its at all dark or discolored (looks burnt) that would be the cause.

also does it feel like eaither of those magnet slugs have shifted at all? that would definatly cause the problem you are describing.

Yeah that TV is officially ruined, lmfao
It already is, trust me.

Just checked the resistance with my DMM. I used the setting on mine where you get the little whistle. Both vc read 04.3 ohms. Is that the correct setting on the DMM?

Mine is made by electro tek.

looking close at the spider in this pic..seems like the assembly is cocked over at a not so straight angle...if the coils read fine, its a factory defect..

did it sound okay when it worked?

EDIT: actually, looking at it closer...it looks like both slugs are shifted to the left in that pic...which would explain the whole assembly being shifted..

Soooo, you might not be to far off in your assumption that the heat may have got to it..they might just be using some bs glue to hold the t-yolk, slugs and top plate together...and looking at my assassin, i wouldnt doubt the glue not holding up very well.

I'm dying to know myself since I still have my Arsenal 12 sitting in the box in my bedroom...been sitting there mocking me for two months now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I'm still waiting to scrape up the funds for the PG Octane 8.0:1 amp(600 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms) so I'm looking to get the most out of this excellent SQL sub.

I only listened to it for around an hour with various material shortly after I got it and it impressed me quite a bit. I was only giving it a measly 160 watts but it was apparent that it can get pretty loud, goes down low(noticeably lower than my Atlas 12), but still retain excellent SQ. I didn't hear any bloated, sloppy overhang....just tight,clean,hard-hitting bass.

UPDATE

I spoke with Chad today. I was told that I probably burned up one of the voice coils by either clipping the signal real bad, or there is a mechanical problem with the sub. A mechanical problem = new sub for no cost. A burned vc = my problem and I guess a recone.

My problem is this. I babied that SOB like my I baby my genitals. Its brand new and I treated it like the rest of my audio stuff that has lasted me eons. I have never blown a sub, ever. I bought this sub for SQ, not SPL. He tried telling me in an around about way that everyone calls telling him "I only gave the sub 50 watts and barely played it." That kinda pissed me off stereotyping me like that. I'm a 30yr old married man with a family. I know how to care for my audio/visual stuff.

Now, if the vc is damaged, it sure as hell isn't from overpowering. 600 watts never even got this sub near full excursion in a 1.2 cu ft sealed box. I set my gains with the Autosound set up discs and instructional manual. I have an Arc Audio single vc 4ohm sub that I have pushed way beyond its limits and that sub just begs for more abuse, and takes it.

One more note. On closer observation, the top magnet does appear to be shifted significantly more to one side. It is far from centered around the motor, but is that really a problem?

I will be shipping the sub back in the morning. I will be very shocked and baffled to hear if a vc is damaged. He said it would only take him seconds to tell what the problem is. The question is, do I really want a sub that burns up (if'n it is) without even getting down on it and pushing it? Maybe a got a bad one. Who knows.

I knew I should have bought that Arc Audio 12D4.

its a defect...look at the slugs and moving assembly. its all fugged up.

the gap is only so large, and the coil is "floating" in between the inside of the slugs and the pole..if the slugs move, it'll pinch the coil in place and not let it move...the magnets are pretty strong, so it definately has the capability to seize it up..

i bought a "blown" old hcca series sub with the older tc9 and when i got it i could tell right away the motor was ****ed..pulled it apart and the coils were immaculate (with the exception of a bit of scarring from being pinched..the exact same situation youre in.

id be willing to bet you could pull the bottom plate right off the motor if you didnt have to send it in.

defintaly looks at closer inspection that the slugs\motor is shifted to the side. you can tell the whole cone is tilted a bit. (and a bit i mean very very little)

i trust that you will be getting a new sub shortly. i bet it was just a factory dud that had not enough glue one it. it happens now and then, i HIGHLY doubt it was any resort of "heat on the motor"

and i know a few people who have these. i met a kid in ohio that had a pair and he had a 2500d to them. and they were goign way beyond their limits and you could smell glue burning.

they can definatly handle power.

I appreciate y'all pointing that out.

Do these magnified pics tell what possibly the problem is.

Chad made mention that this can happen when the sub is dropped also.

Watch me get accused of dropping this beauty. You'll see one upset coonass!
