Problem with amp

I was driving along last night and my amp just went off all of a sudden. Now when i turn power onto the car sometimes the light on the amp will light up so i know it gets power but then as soon as the music starts sometimes sooner it just turns off. I checked all my fuses and my ground and checked to see if any wires were loose but everything seems to be fine.

its a profile cl1200 1200 watt amp and 2 fosgate HE2 12" subs. The impedence for the amp gave the rms and all at 2 ohms and the subs it gave my rms at 4 ohms. And yes i checked all my wires from the head unit and everywhere else i could think of and everything is connected tight.

Profile Amp

* Peak Output Power 600W x 2 @ 4 Ohms

* RMS Output Power 300W x 2 @ 4 Ohms

* RMS Output Power 450W x 2 @ 2 Ohms

* Bridged RMS Output Power 900W x 1 @ 4 Ohms

* Dual MOSFET Power Supply

* Total Harmonic Distortion

* Signal / Noise Ratio 105 dB

* High Level Inputs

* Pre Amp Outputs

* Variable Bass Boost at 45Hz 0-18 dB

* Switchable Crossover High Pass / Full / Low Pass

* Variable Crossover Frequency 40 - 500 Hz

* Switchable Sub Sonic filter (Off/20Hz)

* Fuses 3 x 30A

* Dimensions 2 5/8" H x 10" D 25" W

* Terminal Size power/speaker 4/6 AWG

Fosgate subs

# 100-400 watts RMS

# 800 watts peak power

# CONsealer gasket hides mounting screws

# Polypropylene woofer

# Dual 4-ohm voice coil

# Roll treated foam surround

# Top mount depth 6-3/16"

I have the exact same amp and for some reason mine gave out as well. It'll hit a few times than the protection light will come on. Could this be something internally? I have mine bridged at 4ohm into a FUBR12 sub. I'd like to know this as well. I don't want to buy a new amp.

Ok. After tearing my amp apart to make sure nothing on the board was fried, I put it back in the car and went to wire up the ground wire and I pulled it a little too hard i guess and it came right out from under the screw. So, I tried tightening it down, but it wouldn't tighten all the way. So, I bolted it behind a nut in my trunk and the ground is now solid. It plays fine now and doesn't cut out. So, check your ground before you waste time tearing it apart like I did.

Ill try grounding it somewhere else but i checked to make sure that it was tight already and my protection light doesnt come on the light in the middle of the amp comes on then goes back off and the power and protection lights are both off, and right before the center light goes off there a kind of popping sound like it tries to send power to the subs and thats when it dies or something

How many applications are you trying to run off of the remote wire? Depending on the headunit, some can supply more power than others. If you are trying to turn on 2 or more amps with the wire, it may work for a few secs, but as soon as the sub hits, it'll pull enough power to cause the remote wire to not supply enough. But, if you have just the Profile amp wired up, I'm noty sure of the problem then.

I have mine hooked up each side running to a different sub. The power wire is hooked straight to the battery too i dont know if that could affect it at all but i cant fit the cable in to hook it up at the distribution box.

hey thanks for the suggestions tristan i tried scraping the washer that i grounded it with some more cause when i first scraped it i just scraped down to more black so i stopped there and what i had to do was hold it with pliers and use a hole cutting drill bit and use that to take the paint off and that didnt even get it all off but enough for it to work.
