Post pics of your TV on the wall

The rabbit ears can go essentially anywhere? How strong are they? I assume how the work is the flap squeezes the drywall as you tighten the screw?
Will cutting the back of it work?

I plan on using a tube to route the wires in between the boxes.

look at the second pic in that link. when you turn the screws, those pieces of plastic turn out behind the drywall so the box doesn't pull out. that's what the "rabbit ears" are. that's the easiest way to install a new box in existing drywall (the best way would be nailing to the stud but that would get messy).

and installing a "tube" between the two holes would be extremely difficult... trust me...

i wish i could explain this in person haha, i deal with similar installs/modifications at work all the time... i gotta go to bed though, good luck!

He is wanting to do just what you guys are thinking but I think the problem he is having is the plate he is going to be using to work with what he wants will not just screw into a "pop in box"
I say you go to a new neighborhood and walk in a house they are doing electrical work on and ask one of them when they get off to come do it and give them 50 bucks.. They will probably take material off of truck which will in turn save you money and come do it. We had that happen quite a few times. But being I didnt click on the links of the plates you want to use, I can help no further.

I may consider just hiring someone, but I didn't want this to get expensive.

I've been reading up on different HT things since I just bought a 52" lcd and a house to go with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I was originally going to run all the wires in the wall but some people say not to run the tv power cable in the wall. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me if you run a new wire and install an outlet behind the tv, or just run the power wire in the wall.

K. Thanks, that explained exactly what I wanted to know. I will deal with routing the wires when it comes to it.

It's usually acceptable as long as there's a divider between them.

Lol, looks like you have the idea. Do what most people are saying, do NOT do what DB is showing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

NO there is no need to mount to a stud, get the pop in boxes with the "rabbit ears" but you do not need a 2 gang box as the one you are showing. Just a single gang box.. The box only needs one hole on top and one on bottom, just like the plate you are showing,.

Why is this an issue? Mine are zip tied together now behind my TV now with no issue. The monitor cables and power cables are zip tied together on every PC on our base. I am not certain this causes any issues.

well i wouldn't plug the power wire into an outlet behind the wall that's inaccessible... that's a potential fire hazard, but just routing the cord in and out of the wall wouldn't/shouldn't be an issue at all... it's no different from the romex that wires your house... in fact, it might be more heavily insulated that romex...

Here's another pic of the same type of box. You can see the top ear that tightens up behind the sheetrock and alse the stationary ears on the front that prevent the box from falling back into the wall. This along with the plate you've been posting the pic of will work well together.
