positions of sub

ok i know that this is completely wrong but i cant really explain why so i need help. my friend decides to come up with this idea that subs can be placed anywhere in a car and sound exactly the same because it plays at a low tone. i have a small sub that i was gonna put in different places facing different ways to prove it but i figured itd be easier just to explain it. so now i need to explain it to him so can someone tell me how to explain it. thanks for the help.

Yea, i dont think the firing postition relaly matters, but i think if you have only one facing in an odde direction the bass will sound diffrent because if you have a ported box, air space matters.

I think you guys are arguing different things.

He is probably using the arguement that 'because subs play very low frequencies, they are non-directional to the human ear, therefor they can be placed anywhere in a car and you cant tell where it is coming from.'

It sounds like you are arguing more about cancellation issues with firing the sub different directions from different spots.

His mistake, if I'm correct in my assumptions, is that he is using the non-directional fact too broadly to also count in how EXACTLY a sub sounds, like its SPL levels, which ARE in fact VERY influenced by where and in what direction the sub is firing.

yea you are right because i took what he was saying a different way until you said that even though hes still wrong i kind of understand what hes talking about now. its just that i was figuring he meant position of firing and i know my sub sounded horrible facing me but facing the other way it was completely different.

wow...this thing comes in handy. I'm glad I have a copy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
