I've got a Q-Logic 1.0 cu ft sub enclosure. It can be used sealed or ported. Well I've had it sealed for a while and I'd like to see the difference porting makes. It has a precut hole that has a plug in it. It also came with a 12" tube to be used for porting. I just can't figure out how long the tube should be. It came with instructions on cutting the tube depeding on what you want the sub tuned to. I can't figure them out. It doesn't define the abreviations well enough. It's only a 10" sub so I know it will not hit real low.

I don't think I can change the diameter of the port. It is a premade Q-Logic box. It came with a port plug in it. I can use it sealed or ported. I took the port plug out and and put in the tube and it almost hits the bottom of the sub. It's only about a 1/2" off the bottom so I think I have to cut it.

if you cut it off, your going to tune it higher than 40, and i wouldn't recommend tuning that high, unless your competing or something. "gangsta" the port, in other words, leave it sticking out of the box. if it is 3 1/4" wide, then you need it atleast that far away from a wall. i'd go and get a piece of pvc pipe the same width, but longer, and just leave it sticking out, maybe put an elbow on it, on the outside of the box so it looks like a periscope or something, be creative. but cutting it and tuning it over 40, you'll probably unload your sub, and blow something.

OK I put the sub in the car with the port tube in it. I didn't cut it yet. I just wanted to see if there was any difference in sound. Well even with it not being "tuned" correctly, it sounds alot better. The port is on top of the box and I have about 5 inches of clearance. Well I basically did what you said and moved the tube up a little so it was sticking out of the box. I really didn't hear a difference. The sub manual says that for a 1.0 cu ft box with a 3" port it should be 7.62" long. I may just use that length. This is my first sub and it's a cheap one so If I have to I'll upgrade later. I'm just learning right now. Thanks for the help bro.

it says to cut it that short without even telling you what it'll be tuned to? don't listen to that, if you don't believe me ask around. they will tell you that is to short for daily driving.
