Where is most of the amplifier power lost during a bad install. Is there a big power lost running small wire instead of running thicker wire from the sub to the amp? or is it just from the battery and grounds

Its more important to run big power wires than signal wires. The signal is AC, therefore there is less loss over a distance. Bigger wire doesn't hurt though 16ga-8ga is sufficient from amp to sub. I wouldn't waste my time running anything smaller than 4ga for power.

RCAs are expensive because of marketing. There is no reason to buy "premium" RCAs. You will not hear the difference between the most esoteric $250+ per ft RCAs and the basic Stinger or Knukonceptz ones. Buy the less expensive ones.
