im posting this on behalf of a friend of mine who is thinking about making a speaker box entirely out of plexiglass. i am assuming cause it will look cool.

so do you guys think it will sound different/bad? do you think it will be worth the effort?

thanks

Dave

Yep, use the right thickness of Plexi / acrylic. And it's actually stronger than MDF. Sounds no different to my ears. Is it worth it ? That's a matter of personal opinion. For me, cost vs. function makes it too expensive for my taste. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm sure hoping your friend has had plenty of experience w/plexi and now just wants to make a box out of it. There are tools/tricks to working w/plexi and isn't just like making a box out of MDF. Good luck and take plenty of pics! This outta be good.

And it should sound just the same. A plexi panel is a whole lot cheaper than a whole plexi box.

also is there any type of special adhesive that he is going to need. and will the use of screws plus some sort of epoxy be good? i dont think the screws will crack the plexiglass or will it?

Nope, need plexi adhesive. It actually melts the plexi together. Screws with plexi ****. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

from the how-to, at the bottom, there are the previous versions that contain...

and we had it pre-cut to our dimensions at a plastics shop. You'll need perfect finished cuts for the box pieces, so make sure the person who cuts your acrylic understands your needs so they can make the appropriate cuts. Let the pros at the shop make these precision cuts.
