It's the plastic on the outside. Really wouldn't take much to crack it.

Also, I'm bringing it to a mechanic tomorrow. I don't want to spend the 100$ to get it looked at, but I also don't want 1000$'s in repairs a few hundred miles down the road.

I dont know why people try and sh!t on the thread with the 30mpg explorer. he has more data than any of you naysayers have "Its ford, it sucks, by import" At least this guy has testing with accurate results and he owns a nice suv and get more MPG than most of you. The MPG can be there if you work at it, it is the sacrifice you make to own a nice suv, you have to work a little to get the MPG you want.

i usually get 19 or so around town about 26 on the highway out of my explorer.... about 23 or so combined....so they are not bad suv's as far as mpg go.....i'm selling mine local for $5500 its a 99 with les than 90,000 miles and a few add ons including indash dvd and roof mount 12" screen...and some more...that one being newer doesn't seem like a bad price....

We'll see what's up, and if everything checks out OK I'm buying it..

Sounds like nobody thinks this car is worth 7k??? I would just hate to spend the hundred bucks getting it looked if I can't pay what I want for it...
