room and gas mileage eh? look at saturn ions (quad door) or any 2001+ saturn sc2. tons of room for a coupe, great gas mileage, easy to work on, good for a ssytem (TONS of room in the doors in terms of depth for 6.5"s)....

other than that, vw gti is good, xb or xa, maybe a saturn vue or a toyota rav4 (very well made, great gas mileage, one of the few suvs i would buy)....most of these can be found used under 10k, the last couple might be a bit more

ive been using my dads cars, but the one he takes to work get good milage, and the one i usually use is a toyota tundra which get crapppy milage

If you think a Tundra gets crappy mileage you lead a sheltered life. For a truck, it has some of the best fuel economy.

Well, I buy ALOT of cars but I've never put mileage at the top of the list so:

1994-1995 Taurus SHO (over 20 with manual *****, fast, big and fun) under 5k

^^ spend as much as possible and get a very low miles car for ~5k, I bought mine for $1400 and it's in pretty decent shape

Honda Accord 4cyl, not as big as the taurus but it'll get better mileage, be newer and look nicer

Toyota Camry 4cyl, ****** mobile but other than that it's the same story as the Honda

hmm big trunks and fuel efficient usually don't mix. Some of the smaller crossover SUV's (unibody ones) fit the bill but for under $10k you are looking for an older one and they didn't get decent until the last couple years...

That's all I can think of... it's just that size (read weight) and mileage don't mix well... g/l

diesel cars would be a great choice if you can find a good one (out of my expertise), Tacoma's get ok mileage. How about an older tacoma with a 22Re and a bed cap?

seriously a scion xb would be grwat i get 35 miles on hw and 30 in the city and it has allot of room when it doesn't have sub's on the backseat
