You guys will have to forgive me for being pretty new at this, but I've noticed a lot of you get something like a 750 watt rms sub for example and power it with a 1000 watt rms amp. What's the deal with that?
You can always back an amp off to less than it's rated power. Having "extra" allows for some headroom, which usually means it'll be cleaner at the power level you set it for. Plus we invariably want more.... always thinking about the next upgrade...You guys will have to forgive me for being pretty new at this, but I've noticed a lot of you get something like a 750 watt rms sub for example and power it with a 1000 watt rms amp. This as well. I've got a 2200 RMS @ 1 ohm amp....I don't intend to use every bit of it for quite some time. Until then I will back it off and tune to around 1k RMS and it will be very clean power and won't put a whole lot of strain on the ampYou can always back an amp off to less than it's rated power. Also something you need to take into consideration is that a lot of quality subs these days are very conservatively rated... A good example of this is the sundown SA series subs... a Single 12 is rated for 600w RMS, but most people feed these things in excess of 1k rms without issue, now on the flyp side of that coin you can take your average pioneer or kenwood sub, overpower it by around 250 watts or so and good luck! If ya can stand the smell you might get a little bit of play time before it shytz the bed! ALWAYS adjust your amp with a DMM, this is even easier yet to do with good electrical and running well under rated rms of the amp as you should be no where near clipping with a good quality amp throttled down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifYou guys will have to forgive me for being pretty new at this, but I've noticed a lot of you get something like a 750 watt rms sub for example and power it with a 1000 watt rms amp.
