Overheating Problems

i like cars. a lot.
I am having a problem w/ my amp overheating. It's gotten to the point that it's nearly untouchable due to the heat after driving for a while. Now, it's been in the 80's to mid 90's up here in michigan, so that may have something to do with it, but i doubt it. (since there are states much more hot). I was thinking that that my 8 guage cable wasn't heavy enough? maybe i should go to 4 guage? Also, the amp is 400w...and is in my car's trunk, so ventilation isn't the greatest...any help as to what to do about this overheating will be appreciated. Thanx
