can someone give me the rundown of what exactly these are and what neo means? Ive heard of shocker sigs is it a brand or custom built sub or what?
Shocker is a brand. Subs were made by TC sounds. Shocker Extreme was TC7, Super extreme was TC9, Signature series (sig) was it's own animal, but a stupid big ceramic motor. Neo = Neodymium, it's a rare earth metal that's really expensive but makes an incredibly powerful fixed magnet. Lots of mids and tweeters use it still since it saves space and mass. A few subs have used it, but it gets really pricy because it's scarce, China has a monopoly on raw materials, it's hard to work with from manufacturing standpoint, and demand is through the roof since it's used in windmills (and I'd assume some other forms of generators).
Most of the Shocker subs you'll find are custom made since most people who used them were doing over-the-top DB drag applications where pushing things till they break is the norm.
didnt say ya live in getto bro but there is crime everywhere, ya go places like parking lots to shop and such.
actually one of the biggest bennyz with the neo vrs the 10.5" motor is air flow restriction with the motor.
yea neo has gotte stupid expencive and why soo many companys have stopped useing or back out of future designs with it...
In truth, I do worry more with the neo ones in there since they could sort of be lifted easily. Any box I have loaded with ceramic sigs isn't walking off without a tow truck.... still though, I've been in this hobby since late 80's and only been broke into once (long story, nothing in the car, they thought it was my brother's).
so the advantage of neo motors is. More strength at less weight?
Yes. Huge savings in weight and they gain about a dB over the ceramic sigs. Apparently gains are more dramatic at really extreme output, where guys who were doing 170's with ceramic sigs still gained .7 to 1.0 dB from switching to these motors. That's a huge gain at that level for just switching subs.
