ya why passive? And yes he wants SQ what 15 or even 18" can accuratly keep up with SQ test media?

You do realize that passive radiator is basically just a port that has no risk of chuffing and takes up almost no volume right?

One of the biggest myths about woofers is that 8’s and 10’s are “tighter” and “cleaner” than 15’s or 18’s. Nothing is further from the truth. What tends to happen is that the smaller drivers have lower Q’s because manufactures tend to put large cones on smaller motors to increase SPL and sensitivity but not BL product. Well unless the motor can compensate for the extra mass it has to push, then the Qts will not be the same as the smaller drivers and ultimately the driver may not be suited for the same kinds of alignments and could ring too much and compromise the perceived sound quality. Having said that, high Qts drivers are not any less “tight” or “musical” than well dampened drivers, it’s just they require larger boxes and less internal pressure to prevent ringing. Ultimately there becomes a point where a driver really should be used in an infinite baffle where its actual Qts and Fs becomes the system Qtc and Fc. As enclosure volume decreases, Qtc increases and it will take a driver with a low Qts to make for an average Q system. So in conclusion, the only reason to use a smaller bass driver is for space, weight and potentially power considerations, but likewise, it is inappropriate to try and fit a larger driver into a space smaller than it is ideal for.

Your on drugs. You prolly wernt even born yet. And seeing how he and I are the same age, he would tell you the same if you said that to him. His radiator horns were not in the trunk either. Big difference. He also had 2 12s and 2 15s - not 4 fkkn 18's that cant keep up. He also is not retired. He still has drag shows. His work wasnt because of radiators it was what he did with Speakerworks and Rane that made his car famous. If it was in a ice cream truck it would have been legendary - least that what he said.

Since you have so much experience, Im curious to hear your explanation of why larger diameter speakers cant keep up.

I'm a pretty interested in why you think larger drivers sound worse than 10's and 12's as well? I had 2 old school kicker solo-baric 15's recently and those sounded fantastic. Not a lot of people know about passive radiators and the reason I want to use them is because I want something a little different that not many people have. I'd like to be loud as well as have great sq, so I'd like as much cone area as possible too, I like the sound of ported boxes a little better than sealed but I don't have much space so I usually run sealed anyway. I think my new setup w/ passive radiators takes care of most of my problems.

I also had a tc sounds oem 10 w/ passive and it was pretty impressive.
