Opinions on throw in amps?

So right now I'm somewhat short on cash, and my buddy is looking to sell me his Hifonics BXi 1606D for $150 dollars. It will power two Kicker L5's with dual 4 ohm, so ill wire it down to 1 ohm to get as much power from them as possible. I have heard from some people that amp is great yet doesnt meet the power is says, and then I have also heard the amp is a piece. What are you guys' thoughts on what I should do?

If it works it is easily worth $150.

HiFonics amps are well-known for being a bit optimistic on their output claims but they're usually a decent investment when looking at it purely at a Watts Vs Dollars viewpoint.

So what if it's rated to output 1600 and only does 1200w or so? (not saying that output will be the case ~ just using it for an example)

That's still worth $150 no matter what the paperwork claims.

That's a hell of a price for that amp. The Brutus series is overrated, but you should still get 1200-1300 out of it depending on voltage.

yeah, its a great deal, and it is in really good condition. I know that the rms are over rated but when its rated at 1600 rms @ 1 Ohm is should still be able to push the 1200 rms that the two L5's need.
