even if the HU worked perfectly and was flush with the dash, i would still not recommend it due to the cheap interface and lack of sound customization.

Zed actually made about a dozen of the very early BOSS amps. I've used a bunch of them in budget installs and they're all very nice. Sadly they all say "boss" on them and the power rating on the heatsink is about 3X actual output.
As far as a good low priced in dash DVD I'd also vouch for the Jensen, you can get refurb or old-stock for short money and I've had really good luck with them. A few models even have 5.1 surround output which is pretty cash.

Not gonna lie, I love my Jensen. It has all the features I want with Nav, BT, steering wheel controls, the only downside is a 3 band EQ.

Funny you would ask that... I "accidentally" bought an Eonon D2205 D-Din deck for like $165 shipped on eBay from Hong Kong, it is suppose to be their better-end of things without GPS built-in(but I don't need that). I will post a review once I install it.
