i'm about 30 minutes away from trashing windows vista and installing windows xp pro. i'd like to hear opinions on why i should or shouldn't do this.

i hate it so far. i like the presentation, but it second guesses everything i do. the computer with vista is a 3.33 ghz processor celeron d. i realize it's the budget processor and doesn't perform like athalons and pentims, but this 3.33 processor is running slower with vista then the 2.6 pentium and my 1.8 pentium, both with XP. same amount of ram in all 3.

i live with a completely computer illiterate woman. i'm putting linux on 1 of my pc's, but i need to keep windows on 1. she payed for half and she wants windows, so linux is out.

Uninstall vista and put back on XP. Its what I did and its like getting a new PC

Ubuntu or suse FTW...

My wife knows jack about computers and uses Ubuntu on a daily basis after a few days.

Def. I dont understand why people upgrade to vista .. its such crap .. just like WIndows Millenium .. i would have to say the best versions of windows were .. 95..98 .. 2000 .. and XP .. other than those i think everything else is crap ..

Although I do think they coulda come up with a better name,

I say go with xp. Vista looks pretty, very pretty...but I fail to see any justifiable advancements that make it worth the extra money over XP. I'm really drawing comparisons between windows95 and windows 98 here. And conversely 98 to Millennium. Just not worth the coin yet. If they had at least busted out the new FS this mighta been a good enough reason, but that project may never even see the light of day!

So far I can do everything on Linux that I was able to do on windows. I play World of Warcraft, watch dvd's, do the whole web thing, play mp3's, the whole nine. All for free. With a Journaled Filesystem to boot.

Fedora is good stuff to IMO, but I hear the multimedia stuff like dvd playback is a bit difficult, I know it was the last time I used it...

do it, vista has way too many problems to be usefull. xp pro is a definaite step up!!!
