Older Laptop RAM question

i just bought a Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop for stupid cheap.

Here are the memory specs:

Inspiron 7500 Memory Specifications
Standard Memory	64 MB (removable)
Maximum Memory	512 MB
Memory Expansion	2 sockets
Memory Comments	PC100 SDRAM SODIMMs
CPU Type	Intel PIII OR Celeron

the motherboard may not support all that ram

Prolly not. Looks like the max it can take is 512. SO you need to find 2x256mb modules and that's it.

and no, what is that pc4200 memory you looked at? you need PC100 SDRAM

Also that memory looks like DDR-pc-4200. THat will only work on a newer laptop.

so even if it's cap is 512 and i put 1gb it couldn't run it as 512?

or it's just the wrong shit anyway?

It might not boot or it will only see the max. My guess is it might not boot. 2 256s is the ONLY way to go.

first off, you'll most-likely be running windows 98 on that thing, or a stripped down linux. that laptop will only support either pc100 or pc133 ram(rather old, hard to find) in my experience, a desktop that old will not boot w/ more then 512 megs of ram on average. -- hope that helps
